Although owner Todd Schuetz and Café 440 donate year-round to local charities and events, there are certain events and organizations that make up the core of our philanthropic giving and are supported annually.
In the fall, Todd donates to as many schools and their fundraisers as possible in Lane county. Focus is not only on the 4J and Bethel school districts, but also on rural areas such as Sweet Home, and even as far away as Florence.
Drive for the Cure Golf Tournament
One of the largest annual donations Todd makes is to the annual Drive for the Cure Golf Tournament, held in July. His involvement has grown over the years in honor of his late father-in-law who was going through cancer treatment when Todd began to be involved with the Drive for the Cure. Today, he not only donates hundreds of dollars in gift cards for the auctions, he also sponsors 2 or more teams of golfers. These teams are mostly made up of the staff from Café 440 – we even close the restaurant for the day so the staff can play! Todd also sponsors a hole at the Drive and volunteers many hours to help put on the tournament.
During the holiday season, Todd sponsors several charities that are close to his heart. These charities are all about children in our community and making certain they experience a happy holiday season. From donating hand-made biscuits and gravy to “Breakfast with Santa” (an event hosted by Eugene Parks and Recreation) to making sure gift cards are donated to multiple fundraisers focusing on children, Todd’s winters are always abuzz. One of the most recent events he has added to his list of holiday charities is “Christmas for Kids in Lane County” put on by Kendall Toyota.
